Job Title: Quality Engineer
Position Reports to : Quality Manager
Pay Classification: Exempt
Education and Experience Requirement: College degree with two years’ experience in manufacturing
Skills Required:
- Experience with AS9100 or other certified quality management system. Trained auditor preferred.
- Experience in corrective action and disciplined problem-solving methodology. 8D preferred.
- Experience with ASQ’s 7 Pillars of Quality. Certified CQE preferred.
- Experience with all elements of PPAP submission: Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plan, PFMEA, MSA, Dimensional Layout, Material Certification, Capability Studies, Appearance Approvals, and Hazardous Substance Reporting
- Experience in implementation of Continuous Improvement projects using DMAIC methodology.
- Ability to read blue prints and understand GD&T
- Ability to operate CMM, Calypso programming preferred
- Understanding of characteristics critical to part quality
- Experience using MRP system. Epicor preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to act as a professional representative of the company with Suppliers, Customers, and External Auditors.
- Ability to work independently with little direction.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Physical- generally sedentary work. Able to use PC Keyboard.
- Working Hours- full-time (40+ hrs./week) employment
- Personal Traits- Excellent communication skills with positive teamwork attitude. Conscientious attention to detail and accuracy while able to multi-task and trouble shoot.
- Good organization skills and ability to multi-task.
- Proficient in the use of Excel and Word.
- Proficient in English, strong writing skills required.
- Display good leadership qualities. Be a role model for the company and set the standard of safety and quality for employees of different levels to follow.
Level of Responsibility and Authority:
Directly responsible for maintaining Company Quality Management System. Prepare reports for submission to customers and auditors, Develop, implement, and maintain overall Quality programs. Timely completion of job functions
Job Duties:
- Enforce quality as a culture to ensure that customer expectations are met.
- Monitor and respond to customer complaints.
- Assist with corrective and preventive actions: take part in investigation, monitor progress, promote implementation, verify effectiveness, and document results.
- Work to implement and continually improve the use of quality core tools throughout the company: Advanced Product and Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Monitor long-term capability data. Use this to suggest and implement process improvements.
- Complete customer-required documentation including First Article Inspection Reports, Certificates of Compliance, and Corrective Actions
- Perform Internal Audits in accordance with schedule.
- Manage approvals for new tooling and fixtures.
- Prepare monthly updates to be presented in Management Review Meetings.
- Coordinate material and performance testing with external laboratory.
- Requisition inspection and test equipment as required for production support.
- Work closely with management team to ensure that Continual Improvement objectives are met.
- Participate in implementation of a 6S program.
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection of raw material and components, as required.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
